Set in the late 1990’s, Rose is the story of two Danish sisters, Inger (Sofie Gråbøl) and Ellen (Lene Maria Christensen). Inger is schizophrenic and normally lives in a psychiatric unit but the sisters go a coach trip to Paris. Ellen sees their holiday as a chance for them to bond, and to find out if Inger might be able to live more independently, however, Inger has her own hidden agenda for the trip. Based on his own family history, director Niels Arden Oplev handles the issue of mental health and related discrimination sensitively and with a light touch. Excellent, sensitive performances especially from Sofie Gråbøl in this subtle, heartfelt, funny and involving drama.
